FAQ/RULES

RULES & FAQ taken | pick-up | contact | full navigation
PREMISE Starhue Valley is a Stardew Valley-themed sandbox in the spirit of Ye Olde Dressingrooms— in other words, a place to try out characters and wander in and out as you please without having to worry too much about activity, hard-and-fast setting rules, or really much at all. "Apps" are closer to a note saying "hey, I'm picking up this character," and are really only there to make sure everybody knows who's who and how to contact each other.

If you're less than familiar with the Stardew Valley game and setting, don't worry! The tl;dr is that it's a chill, slice of life sort of game where you try to live off the land (by farming, foraging, and/or mining) and get to know your neighbors— and that's the type of game Starhue Valley strives to be as well. We have the Starhue 101 page for a basic rundown of setting and mechanics, so don't feel like you have to be 100% familiar with the original source material to play. If you do really want to get into the gritty details, though, there's a fantastic wiki!

Also, Starhue is not a jamjar— your character can hop on an outbound bus and go home at any time!

...theoretically, anyway. Inter-dimensional travel can be fiddly, so sometimes the busses run late. Or only come at 3:27 AM every other Thursday. Or are out of order for weeks at a time. (By which I mean if you want to pick up a character who wouldn't be inclined to stick around on their own, there's your easy excuse for them staying put. And speaking of picking up characters...)
APPING Who can I bring in?

At its heart, Starhue Valley is for your poor, your lost, your tired CRAUs who might not have anywhere else to go. 5 years in a game that resulted in crazy physical or mental changes from canon? That's cool. Traumatizing stint in a murdergame? Clearly it's time for a nice vacation in a small farming town! Had a lot of fun with an off-the-wall PSL that's too ridiculous or convoluted to play anywhere else? Get them in here! Anything and everything goes.

However, this doesn't mean that canon (or just straight-up AU'd) characters aren't welcome too! Literally anyone can be played, alive or dead. (Within good taste— no real people who aren't fictional adaptations, please, and if you're picking up someone with a history that might be personally relevant to another player (like Saint Young Men's Jesus, for example) we ask that you keep other people's comfort in mind.)

Also— there's no character cap, multiples are not only allowed but encouraged (though opting out of playing with them is ok!), and you can play more than one character from a cast even if they've got close CR with each other. The game is your oyster! Follow your heart and go nuts.

What about characters native to Stardew Valley?

All of the Stardew Valley cast is around, albeit very confused (and in some cases less than thrilled) about the changes to the town and its population. You can NPC them freely—especially if you've played the game—but no killing or maiming them, please! (And if you want to app one of them as a character, by all means! The normal rules for doubles etc. apply here as well, and you can go ahead and play them as though they'd been there the whole time or as though they'd come in from an alternate Stardew on one of the buses. Whatever floats your boat.)

What if my character needs something unique to live?

For example— if they're a ghoul, a vampire, the soul eating type, or even just have an illness requiring a specific medication or treatment. You can handwave the character mysteriously not needing it any more, the necessary items can be purchased from Pierre's shop, or you can work out arrangements/plots with other players. Whichever is more fun for you— and don't feel like you have to stick with any one method if you get bored!

What can my character bring with them?

E V E R Y T H I N G. Bring your buster sword, your pets and mascots, your ridiculous improbable weapons. Set free that box of Zubats you were breeding to get one shiny. Is your thing too big to fit on the bus into town? Go ask the local gods for a little help, but once that's done it's yours. It's your house! Have the thing!

Are villains allowed?

👌

Even villains sometimes need a vacation, or want to keep CR from old games, right? If they're the type to stir up trouble, though... well, it depends! If you're looking to kick off some good old character based plots or IC drama, go for it, just OOCly make sure you're not stepping on anyone's toes. If they're too bad to be contained, though... see the powers section below!
POWERS Starhue has no gamewide powercaps. However, if your character would ICly make some decisions about using their powers that would OOCly cause problems for other people, nerf them. We trust players to exercise their own judgment as to when and whether it's necessary or not.
DEATH/INJURY Sometimes things do happen... Fortunately, the local clinic got some impressive help when the new arrivals started rolling in, so even if characters manage to get themselves pretty badly injured treatment is available. Feel free to handwave healing time and methods at your preference; who knows what kind of weird technology the new hires brought with them?

Anybody who gets themselves in enough trouble to actually die will somehow wake up the next morning in their own bed. Whatever brought them to Starhue to begin with didn't do so just for them to bite the bullet!
DROPPING/REAPPING For drops, head on over to our drop page. If you're interested in reapping a character that's already been accepted, just go ahead and fill out a new Taken form for them, and you're good to go!
RULES The short version: don't be a dick.

Seriously, that's about it. That's the spirit in which the following rules are intended. We're all here to have fun and hopefully not step on each other's toes, so as long as you're keeping your fellow players' feelings and comfort in mind you should be good to go.

That said, here are the specifics:

Don't godmode. Pretty self-explanatory.

Smut/violence/drug use/etc. are all allowed—as long as you appropriately warn for them. Nobody's here to judge! We're just also not here to walk into your self-indulgent page-stretching makeout threads or whatever unawares, either.

Opt out posts are required. Starhue Valley is open to a wide audience of players! This means it's inevitable that there are going to be people with history, who don't like a particular character or canon, or who just don't get along for whatever reason. Mandatory opt-out posts are our way of making sure players can take charge of their own RP experience in Starhue.

Opt-out posts must be open and easily accessible, though they do not currently have to be screened. If you're found to be tagging someone who has asked not to be tagged by that specific character/you in general, that is an instant strike, so make sure you receive some kind of notification if someone comments to your post to avoid that.

In general, there is a two strike rule before banning. However, while we will do our best to give a warning after the first strike so that players have a chance to adjust their behavior going forward, in cases where we get reports of multiple offenses of high enough severity that may not always be possible. Player comfort is always going to be our top priority.
Sold? Head on over here to pick up a character! Or if you've got any other questions, feel free to drop them here.
